Melanie Brown welcomes a girl

Melanie Brown announced early Friday morning that she had welcomed her new baby with husband Stephen Belafonte -- and apparently it was a laughing matter.

"Finally our baby arrives," she Tweeted. "Stephen nearly passed out, Phoenix screamed, I laughed so hard the baby popped out!!! She is just sooo amazing!!"

Later in the morning, she Tweeted at her husband, writing, "I didn't think it was possible but I love you even MORE now honey, we have a truly amazing family xxxx."

And the singer's rep confirmed the happy news -- and announced the baby's gender, which Brown opted to keep under wraps throughout her pregnancy. "This evening Melanie Brown and husband Stephen Belafonte welcomed their new baby girl in Los Angeles," her rep said in a statement to PEOPLE. "This is the first child for Mel and Stephen and both mum and baby are happy, healthy and doing well."
